Patience is a Virtue

Anything worth having requires patience and hard work. Building a successful site must be cooked like a crock-pot and not in a microwave.

Few things are impossible to diligence and skill. Great works are performed not by strength, but perseverance.” ~ Samuel Johnson

Building websites, blogs and communities is something that I really enjoy doing. I love registering a domain and beginning to fill it with awesomeness. A fresh domain and hosting space is an empty canvas eagerly awaiting you fill it with all sorts of goodness.

Getting out of debt is not an overnight experience. It takes a lot of perseverance, sacrifice and focus to get out from underneath of it. We were at a point where we had 20K in credit card debt, house payment was 3 months behind and the electricity was cut off when we got home. It was an absolute nightmare, I never thought I could get out of it. It took a few years, but eventually I became totally debt free except for my home mortgage that I am still working to pay off now.

At one point in time, I started a few vBulletin communities. In the beginning these are hard because usually the owners are the most active users. Some threads that get started go unnoticed similar to how some blog posts never get read. Eventually the site grew to move off of virtual hosting and I had to put it on it’s own server.

This blog will be no different. As I write posts here, they may not get a lot of attention. Since I have become apart of the community over at Desk.pm, I am among a good company of supportive bloggers. We all have similar struggles so it does make the pain of seeing poor analytics and feeling of “who cares what I have to say” a bit more tolerable.

A great work cannot be forced with a brute force attempt to success. It will take blood, sweat and tears to make something totally worth while. Hopefully, not too much blood, but definitely prepare for the tears.

  1. Great post! I think this idea of, stick with it, it is a marathon not a sprint is something I know I will personally need to be reminded of on maybe a weekly basis.
